Kerf
The groove left in a board when cut by a saw blade.

Kilning
The process of drying lumber artificially under scientifically controlled conditions. Kilns are the chambers having controlled air flow, temperature and relative humidity for drying lumber, veneer and other wood products.

Knot
The dark marking where the branch jointed the tree trunk. In hardwood strip flooring, small and pin knots aren’t more than ½” in diameter. A sound knot is a knot cut approximately parallel to its long axis so that the exposed section is definitely elongated.

Kiln Dried
Wood dried with artificial heat in a controlled environment as opposed to naturally air dried.
